About The Project

Project EmpowerHer: Empowering Local Female Politicians in Moldova aims to empower women in Moldova by enhancing and professionalising their participation and influence in local politics and governance, ultimately fostering democracy, gender equality, inclusivity, and sustainable development in Moldova. Gender inequalities persist in society, and women who decide to run for office or are already working as politicians often face hate speech and offensive treatment.

The project has two specific goals, which it aims to achieve through a series of activities. First, it seeks to strengthen the capacities of newly elected female representatives, specifically councillors and mayors, who emerged from the local elections in November 2024. This will be accomplished through educational activities, conference and networking.

Additionally, the project supports them through a study trip to gain first-hand experience from their counterparts in the Czech Republic and motivation to continue their political and community work.

Lastly, the project aims to increase recognition and visibility for successful women politicians, experts, and activists. This will be accomplished through the creation of an online database of female political experts at the local level, and dissemination of the project results.
